New Zealand defender Nikko Boxall has signed for Danish First Division side Viborg FF.
Boxall, who is the brother of All Whites defender Michael Boxall, was on trial at the club in November and has now signed a full-time contract until 2020.
The 25-year-old, who is also eligible to play for Samoa, has joined afer a short spell at KuPS in Finland.
He said: “”It feels really good to be here again. I’ve been waiting for a while, and now I’m just glad that everything has fallen into place. I’m very proud and excited to get started, and I’m looking forward to pulling my shirt over his head.”
Boxall has previously played for the Northwestern Wildcats college team in America before playing for fifth-tier German side SVN Zweibrucken.
Viborg FF sports director Jesper Larsen said: “Nikko delivered a very strong impression when he trained with us. He is a uncompromising and hard-wearing defender, who is also good at the ball and has good speed. We have been in touch with him for a few months and know that he is very keen to come here despite the fact that KuPS faces Europe League qualification.”
Boxall will compete with Jacob Dehn and Soren Reese for a starting spot with the club, which is currently 7th in the Danish second tier.
Viborg are traditionally one of the smaller clubs in Denmark but did win the Danish Cup in 2000. The club is known for its distinctive green kit.
