Fiji coach has named Stoke City’s Scott Wara in the Fiji squad for the international friendly with Philippines.
The coach has been a long-time admirer of the u23 Stoke City defender and has been trying to convince him to play for the national team.
Wara, who had previously turned down a call up because of his club commitments, is also eligible to play for England and has yet to choose a national team.
Having made his debut in the English league with Leek Town during a loan spell, Wara was visited by Gamel and it now remains to be seen if he accepts the call up. A defender with an eye for goal, he has impressed at Stoke where he has played for the u19s and u23s this season.
Gamel has also called up former Wrexham and Newcastle Jets forward Leroy Jennings. Despite playing for the u23 team, Jennings has not committed to Fiji and could make his international debut.
Roy Krishna is also included and will be the most important player as Gamel aims to select a team to win in Philippines. However, there is no place for suspended striker Iosefu Verevou or goalscoring midfielder Samuela Druru, who scored twice for Lautoka in the Oceania Champions League to secure quarter final qualification this week.
The extended 34-man squad will be trimmed down before Fiji head out to play.
