One of the Oceania Champions League’s greatest ever matches ended in a thrilling win for AS Dragon of Tahiti.
The Tahitian side beat Erakor Golden Star 4-3 with two last-minute goals in a stunning contest that highlighted the attacking prowess of both teams.
Despite a pitch that has been affected by rain and mud, both teams put on a superb display. However, it was two late goals from AS Dragon captain Tamatoa Tetauira that won the game for Dragon.
The 21-year-old midfielder scored his third goal of the tournament in the 89th minute from the penalty spot to bring the score to 3-3 then tapped in for a late winner to dramatically take all three points.
With a heavily waterlogged pitch the match started with a superb header from Raymond Lemaitre, with the Frenchman netting his second goal of the tournament to give AS Dragon the lead.
Tony Kaltack was then brought down in the area in the 14th minute. The livewire striker handed the ball to Jacques Wanemut to equalise for Erakor.
Kaltack, Erakor’s most dangerous player, hit the crossbar in the first half with a thumping shot, while Barry Mansale also came close with a freekick as Erakor looked strong.
And after half time Elkington Molivakarua scored for Erakor to put the Vanuatu side ahead.
AS Dragon pulled themselves back into the game with another header – this time from Teinaore Seino – before Erakor found themselves down to ten men when Joseph Iaruel was sent off in the 73rd minute for a second yellow card.
However, ten-man Erakor took the lead shortly after when AS Dragon defender Gabriel Vakoume scored an own goal.
It looked like Erakor were set to win but the home side have captain fantastic in Tamatoa Tetauira. He scored twice in the team’s first game and netted again from the penalty spot on 89 minutes.
Just minutes later Serge Daniel in the Erakor goal rushed out but failed to collect the ball. AS Dragon played it across an empty goal and Tetauira was there to touch the ball into an empty net for a dramatic last-minute victory.
Both teams can be proud of their efforts in the game and Erakor will be rueing the red card after dominating for large parts of the game. AS Dragon are now on six points and Erakor on three with a game to go.
In the other game Solomon Warriors beat AS Lossi 6-1 to move to three points, while Lossi are on no points after two games. Erakor play AS Lossi in their final game to decide the quarter finalists.
