Vanuatu star John Alick scored the winner as Solomon Islands’ two Oceania Champions League qualifiers met in a pre-tournament friendly.
The 26-year-old midfielder scored the winner to give his new side, Solomon Warriors a 2-1 away victory over Marist FC.
Alick on joined the club last year but has proved a hit and will now test himself in the Oceania Champions League.
Alick previously played for Erakor Golden Star and has seven caps for the Vanuatu national side. He has so far failed to score an international goal.
Solomon Islands striker Gageme Feni, 25, scored the first goal of the day for Warriors just before half time but Marist FC hit back quickly through 38-year-old veteran Abraham Iniga.
A second friendly game at Solomon Warriors will take place on 4 February to complete the side’s warm up for the tournament.
The friendlies were arranged because the Solomon Islands Telekom S League has been pushed back to March and players needed game time.
Solomon Warriors will play Dragon of Tahiti, Lossi from New Caledonia and Alick’s former club Erakor Golden Star in Group B of the Champions League.
Marist will have home advantage when they host New Zealand’s Team Wellington, Magenta of New Caledonia and qualifying runner up Lupe ola Soaga of Samoa.
Marist have also been hit with disrupted after the training ground flooded following heavy rain last week.
